Ouch...that stings a bit. I truly don't live the gospel fully. I went in 4 stores today and not once did I offer so much as a thank you and a smile to those who helped me. I wasn't intentional, I was friendly. But friendliness void of truth doesn't make people aware of Christ, and who they are apart from Him. I don't think I can ever be convicted enough about this.

I really need to check out this book.

Tenacity... I love that word. It's definitely something we should have in our spiritual lives. Holding fast to the things we believe in. I think that tenacity helps us build endurance. Though I don't think I would have ever considered the word to describe me before you brought it up. It almost seems to have the quality of fierceness to it (like a mother bear with her cubs)...of not being willing to give up or compromise on something.

Hi Jolene.

Thanks so much for this article! I could relate to every bit of it!

Endurance has always been something I am bad at. 'Stick-a-bility', as I call it, meaning the ability to 'stick at' something. Including running, which I flirted with earlier this year. Oh man, can I relate to the need for endurance there (and, so far, my lack of it). I really appreciated this quote -- Endurance is that point when you have the strength and determination to keep going even when you want to stop, -- because I had not thought of it like that before exactly, but you are right, that is exactly what it is.

I have recently discovered in my line of work that where I lack a certain trait (handling of minutia without having to actively think about it) common to many in my field (I'm an accountant), I have a compensating quality; namely, the tenacity to go over and over things with a fine tooth comb until I can find everything I need to. Where 'tenancity,' to me, is something like taking the deliberate decision that I will keep going until I have finished, or, in a wider context, have reached my goal. It is a bit stop-start, but the starts are getting longer and the stops are getting shorter. So I guess what I have learned from this article is that endurance isn't such a big scary thing, but just what tencity becomes when it becomes automatic. Would you agree with that? In the meantime, maybe tenacity is a valid substitue for endurance in the short term?

I don't know quite how tenacity relates to the spiritual life just yet, but in the meantime, you have inspired me, and if you will keep me accountable, then I will go running :-D

How Interesting!

I just dropped by the blog again today for the first time in a long while and the opposite thought struck me from the same verse you quoted - it is easier in writing to present ourselves as better than we are and then fail to deliver in the same way when it comes to real life. How interesting that you see something different in the same thing. I will be thinking about this verse and both the different ways it relates to our lives, Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for this timely reminder!
As a writer, words are very important to me. And I love that Jesus is called the Living Word. If we want integrity, then (as Paul said) there should be no difference between our words and deeds.

Hi Jolene, I'm a new reader and listener of your podcasts!

I think your topic this morning has never been more relevant and is something we should all pay attention to! With Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc, we are constantly putting words out there and they should be thoughtful and reflect who we are.

I'm going to pray the scripture of 2 Cor. 10:11 today - thank you!

God Bless-
Lindsey

Thank you for a terrific reminder of the balance between God's sovereignty and our responsibility. God gives us the gifts, abilities, and opportunities, but we must act...or as you noted, "complete the doing of it."
One year ago, I was anticipating the publication of my first book, a one-year devotional on the names of God. But I was also wondering if that book would be my first and last. Since that time, two children's books have also been published, and I learned several weeks ago that more opportunities are in the offing, by the grace of God.
My desire is to keep writing and teaching as God provides the equipping and the opportunities, and leave the results to Him. It's been a fabulous ride, but it's not over yet! :-)
